It’s the Nokia N800 Internet Tablet.
Those crazy kids with their crazy iPod Touch, iPhone, iDon’tCare, (…insert latest fad here…) have nothing on this baby. It runs Linux by golly and that clearly moves it from suck to awesome.
Now I have actually been lusting after the N800 for quite a while. It is not even the latest and greatest from Nokia, but it has all the features I could ever want in a mobile computing device. I being that it is not the latest, folks are giving them away or using them as packaging for shipping crates.
What set off my gadget itch this time was an article in Linux Journal where every month they interrogate some Linux nut about the cool tools they use. This month they interview a BBC executive who, as LJ puts it, is a “closet Linux hacker” and “packs a lot of Linux iron”. This guy is talking about how he records his shows with MythTV and transcodes them to watch on his N800 while he’s riding the train work. Ah the British, I do envy them and their gnarly teeth.
Yeah so the plan is to get a high paying tech job, get a N800, and profit.
I just had to gush.
